"Im your girl. You’re my girl. We’re your girls. Don’t you know that we love you…"
One was sweet. One told lies. One laughed all the time, in a really high pitched voice. One never smiled. One was an educator. One threw the GREATEST parties. One spent. One saved. One never forgave. One is quick to forget. One built jetpacks. One made sure we were tethered to terra firma. One knew Manolo. One knew Nike. One would reach back for Mahalia. One wouldn’t stretch forward for Jay Electronica. One spoke. One listened. And they loved each other.
There are four. Four women, each of them having navigated incredibly different paths in life, take time to sit down and mine through their memories, their experiences, their thoughts, dreams, and feelings to discover the ties that bind.
Ups. Downs. Smiles. Frowns. Love. Disappointment. Career. Faith. War. Deceit. Discovery. Shoes. Music. Travel. Apart. Together.
Show me a person who agrees with you 100% of the time, and I will show you a person who is most likely a good liar. Our bond is rooted in truth and admiration and mutual respect. Yet we argue, fuss, and fight. Sometimes. Eh. It is what it is.
We are seeking to understand ourselves, and the world around us. At times we look to ourselves. At times we seek our reflections in others. The bottom line is that we are constantly fed information about ourselves through the words and images of others. There is value in that, for sure. Even if it is no more than “oh-this-is-what-so-and-so-thinks-about-me/us”. Some are loving, some are not. Some hurt. Most are illuminating.
In this space you get to witness the quest. We have decided to open up the sister circle. We ruminate and question and answer and reflect amongst ourselves, and now you have the distinct pleasure of being invited to the table. Have a seat.
